Welcome to Nashville, Tennessee y'all

After some airport pick up confusion and a lovely man from San Francisco who let me use his phone, Loren and Jess finally found me!!
Kudos to Loren for driving on the other side of the road and from the other side of the car!!

We are here for the American Operating Room Nurses (AORN) global conference which is held every year in a different state of America. In 2017 I attended the conference in Boston, MA and completed the leadership summit but this time I'm attending as a delegate. It's one of the largest conferences with over 40 countries and approx. 5000 attendees. It is made up of single session education talks, round table discussions, poster sessions, hands on workshops, company rep presentations, hospital recruitment stands and an EXPO of all companies and manufacturers showcasing their new tools/products. All the main players are here! J&J, Zimmer, Smith & Nephew, Steris, Stryker, Halyard, etc etc.
Its a jam packed 4 days with so much to take in but we've studied the program and picked ones that we can relate to paediatrics and similar health care systems (mainly Canada/UK). There was lots of sessions around using simulation for new grads, students, staff new to the OR which was really interesting and something maybe worth thinking about when I return back to work....
Food for thought anyways! Its always nice to network and catch up with colleagues from home across the globe!
We attended the international welcome reception where we met some of the other Australian crew including our ACORN president Rebecca East and my friend Marija from The Netherlands. Marija and I first met in Boston 2 years ago and then she visited me in Australia and came to RCH for a visit. We will meet up again at EORNA in May (more on that later.. back to Nashville!)

At each AORN conference they hold a party and this one was called "boots and bling" at one of the bars downtown on Broadway. It was set over 3 levels and a rooftop area which had a good view down the Main Street! Nurses of course are always up for a party!! They also had mechanically bull rides which were in full swing!!! Luckily my excuse was that I had woken a dress!
After the party we headed into another local bar with live music which was really funky with bar dancing and violin playing!

Post conference one afternoon we visited the county music hall of fame museum, lots of memorabilia and superstar platinum records!

Prior to coming everyone raved about Nashville and I had high expectations.... And it smashed them! It is stunning! Small town southern hospitality feels in a funked up town! We stayed about 15 mins out of the CBD and the neighbourhood was lovely! Great little cafes, bars and food that was some of the best I've had! If you are ever in Nashville grab a burger at Pharmacy! Delicious!

Seperate blog post about our visit to Jack Daniels! Another must if your in Tennessee!

I've loved my time here and definitely will be back again!
The road trip continues as I make my way to Chicago via Louisville and Indianapolis!
Sad to say goodbye to the girls, been so nice seeing familiar faces and having a laugh!

Much love,
L xx
