Laguna Beach

Orange County

The last couple of days I've been exploring the west coast beaches of orange county, from Huntington Beach all the way down to San Clemente.
Just stunning and all on the bus! Seriously you can get anywhere down the coast for a $2 ride or $5 day pass.
The bus follows the pacific highway up and down the coast. Yesterday I went down to spend the day at Laguna Beach, its a bit like Lorne I guess at home but obviously a bit more Spanish style architecture and flavour. It has lovely shops and cafes to grab something and head back down to the beachfront and enjoy! The have large Pacific gulls that try to steal your sandwiches (clearly I learnt that the hard way)
Along the beach they have lifeguard towers but no flags like home, it was still a little too cold but lots of families having a great time in the sun. Volleyball courts on the sand and a basketball court are always in demand.
Laguna beach has 3 blocks of little streets to browse and it has it's own trolley to take you along the coast on a weekend, so it's a great place to base yourself and explore. It also has many art galleries to wander in and admire.
On the way back the bus passes Crystal Cove which has a shopping centre and lots of Spanish villa style housing that backs onto a state forest.
I stopped of at a loverly town Corona Del Mar which is very similar but feels more small community rather than a tourist destination so it had a nice feel to it. Its close to Balboa island and Peninsula and its the channel opening into this area.
Along the highway there are several coves and lookouts to stop and get great pics if your driving, I took one from the bus but struggling to upload it (I will try again when I can get better wifi)

I also ventured out to Fashion Island which is a large shopping centre in Newport (of course on the bus), it has both indoor and outdoor shops and large ponds and water features.
It also has my favourite store called "whole foods" its like LaManana at home on steroids. It sells all the usual groceries which I love wandering the isles because everything is so different but the same.
What is different is the cooked/fresh food sections you can but food by weight for lunch or take away. From salad bars, fresh sandwiches, pizza bars and cakes!
I didn't have one though, I'm saving myself for key lime pie in Miami!!!!

Hope all is well at home, L xx
