Miami here I come!

Disney we meet again, and still magical..

Of all the weekends to come to Miami Florida I’ve picked the craziest!!!! It’s the last weekend of college spring break and it’s also Ultra Music Festival here which is a giant music rave over 3 days which draws 1000's of party people to town!
I’m staying in a really cute apartment in the area of Brickell, also known as the financial district. Close enough to the action but also not too close! It has a view of the Miami river and Brickell Key throughout the condos!

Miami is often revered to as "little Havana" as it has a large Cuban population and influence after people fled the Cuban revolution, many settled in Miami. The Biscayne Bay, everglades, keys and coral gables are all within reach from locating yourself in the downtown area. Miami has the largest cruise ship port which also generates lots of tourists. Like many other places I've found the public transport great to get around and if you can use the metro mover (monorails) its free. Being above the road also gives you a good view over downtown.

I headed off to South Beach this afternoon, weather wasn’t amazing but certainly still warm enough that there were people on the beach and all the restaurants/bars were busy!

Beautiful art deco hotels from the 1930's and restaurants are along Ocean drive which is the main street behind South Beach (that you see in all the movies)

Beachside there was some craft markets and college beach volleyball competitions going on.
I went to see the Miami Marlins baseball game against the New York Mets, not a big crowd on Monday night and most of the fans were cheering for New York who won!!

I've had a bit of downtime here, which was nice I think it was much needed after a crazy week in Cuba!

Today I’m catching the bus to Orlando and catching up with Loren and Jess, who are here! I’m so looking forward to hearing a familiar accent and seeing familiar faces, it’s been a really crazy six weeks! I'm staying in a little town called Kissimmee near the Disney World Orlando parks and resorts. It's been 20 years this year since I’ve been here!! Looking forward to seeing what’s changed what hasn’t changed and of course all that is the magic of Disney.
I met Loren and Jess for dinner at Planet Hollywood, Disney Springs and the next day we went to Magic Kingdom which is the main theme park similar to the Disneyland in LA.
Disney is always magical no matter how old you are and not a lot had changed in 20 years!!! Note to Disney: you really need to upgrade the Australia part of its small world, its still terrible! And I'm still singing that song!
My favourite Disney films are the little mermaid and beauty and the beast so i naturally spent time with them!
The highlight is always the 3pm parade in the Main Street with the Disney characters having giant floats.

After a busy day Disney we headed into Orlando as we got basketball tickets to see Orlando Magic versus New York Knicks which is exciting, I've never been to a basketball game in the US before!

The next stop for us is Nashville where we got the AORN conference. Looking forward to checking out Nashville and country music scene of course boots!!
Yeeeeeehhhhaaaaawwwww!
Much love, L xx

hey there Laura, Just wanted to say how impressed i am with your blog. Its so informative and interesting plus i did to see another side of you which is always nice. You have been very brave going solo but i think sometimes thats the only way to really get to know a country and its people. Love the cuba and miami parts of your trip, the music and culture are definitely my style, I also love the buena vista social club from way back, keep it up. olya
